MAR 2020 Client of the Month: Truncated Tales

What’s your name and your role in the company?

Giles Chanot. I am the co-founder of Truncated Tales, along with my wife Emelye. I concentrate on app development and marketing, with a bit of book writing on the side.

Tell us about your business

Around 2010 we started publishing apps onto the App Store, mainly revolving around simple games. In 2011 we had a couple of monster hits – The Radio, the first freely available app to provide access to all the main UK radio stations, and Mr Word, a Scrabble-like word game with a mischievous sense of humour.

That year we hit our first million download milestone, and suddenly we had a viable business on our hands.

Since the early days we have expanded our portfolio with dozens of other apps and have published books as well, using tools like Kindle Direct Publishing and CreateSpace.

What drove you to start the business?

I had been working in IT for several years, and had already created a web start-up in London during the days of the dot-com boom. I now spotted a new opportunity in the form of iPhone Apps and we were lucky enough to make a success of it.

Why did you choose The Accountancy Partnership?

Pretty soon we realised the need to form a limited company, but we had neither the inclination nor the expertise to manage the accounts ourselves. The Accountancy Partnership provided a very easy route to incorporation, with user-friendly online tools to manage the accounts.

Would you recommend The Accountancy Partnership?

We would absolutely recommend The Accountancy Partnership! The service we have received has always been completely professional, courteous and timely.

What do you have planned for your business in the future?

We hope to continue expanding the app business, and may look to publish further books in future.
