Staff Spotlight: Elysha Engle, Accounts Junior

Give an overview of the duties, functions, and responsibilities of your job.

My job includes completing accounts, VAT returns and bookkeeping as well as supporting clients with technical support for our bookkeeping software Pandle.

What is a typical working day like for you?

A typical work day for me always starts with going through my emails and planning out my day. Every day is different in regard to the specific work I am completing as this can change day to day depending on things like deadlines.

How are you able to use your skills to solve problems for your clients?

I am a very logical thinker and I think this really helps when helping my clients with any challenges they are facing. I will always look at all the factors, plan out how we can go about solving this, and then reassuring the client, making sure they are kept updated if anything changes.

What is your favourite part of the job?

My favourite part of my job is being able to see how all the different aspects of a set of accounts are brought together. I like to be able to see where the numbers are coming from, why they are being used in a certain way and how they all affect each other.

What do you like most about working for The Accountancy Partnership?

I really like the people I work with, and that my training is one to one so if there is something I’m unsure of I have a person I can specifically go to.

What skills do you find most useful to do your job?

I think organisation and strong communication skills are incredibly important in this job. In accounts there are many deadlines and it helps to be able to organise my time effectively to meet these and to be able to communicate with both clients and within the team.

Where’s your favourite place to visit on days off?

On my days off I really enjoy going to cafes with some of my friends who I went to school with. It’s lovely to catch up.

Tell us about your proudest achievement.

One of my proudest achievements was deciding to make a career change at 22. I had always wanted to be a teacher but realised that this was not the career I wanted after working in education. I then dropped out of studying maths at university and started my ACCA. It was really scary at the time but it was one of the best decisions I’ve made.

How would your colleagues describe you?

My colleagues describe me as positive and chatty.

Who do you admire, and why?

The person I admire most is my mum, she’s always been so hard working and motivated. She is incredibly kind and does anything she can for the people in her life.
