Staff Spotlight - Laura Davies, Accounts Semi-Senior

Staff Spotlight: Laura Davies, Accounts Senior

We talk to Laura about her role as an Accounts Senior here at The Accountancy Partnership.

Give an overview of the duties, functions, and responsibilities of your job.

Talking to clients to understand their business, accounts, VAT returns, corporation tax returns, and Self Assessment tax returns.

What is a typical working day like for you?

First thing in the morning, I’ll do a set of accounts, and then I will check my emails from overnight and contact my consultation calls. I like to go for a run on my lunch, before continuing with emails, answering clients’ queries, and completing VAT returns.

What particular challenges do you regularly encounter?

Rallying 2 young children so that they’re up and ready for school is always fun. In work, I’d probably have to say managing time efficiently, as I like to make sure that every client is getting the best quality service.

What are some of the biggest challenges faced by your clients?

Recently, the biggest challenge most clients have been facing is Covid-19. In more normal times I would say understanding the different taxes relating to themselves and their businesses.

How are you able to use your skills to solve problems for them?

During my career I have been able to work with a range of clients, which has helped me understand a variety of different businesses, in terms of both accountancy and practicality. This allows me to tailor my approach depending on the business and the individual involved.

What is your favourite part of the job?

Talking to the clients and seeing the variety of businesses they run.

What do you like most about working for The Accountancy Partnership?

All of it really but I do love all of my friendly colleagues and clients.

What skills do you find most useful to do your job?

Knowing where and how to find the answer to any questions which I might not be familiar with, and being able to communicate things in a way which is easy to understand.

Where’s your favourite place to visit on days off?

Our new house – we are currently in the process of renovating our forever home, so a lot of our spare time is spent there. I can’t wait to move in!

Tell us about your proudest achievement.

Without a doubt my two children, watching them grow into their own personalities amazing!

How would your colleagues describe you?

Friendly, chatty, inquisitive.

What are you reading/binge watching at the moment?

Currently watching Ozark and This is Us.

Who do you admire, and why?

My Husband, Andy. He was so supportive during my studies, and he always bends over backwards for our family.

What question would you really like to answer, and what’s the answer?!

Q. Which smells better, fresh bread or cake baking in the oven?

A. The answer is always cake! There’s nothing better than walking into the kitchen when the smell hits you.
