Staff Spotlight: Rory Coles, Bookkeeping Junior

Give an overview of the duties, functions and responsibilities of your job.

Assisting both the Accounts and Bookkeeping teams with the clientele workload.

What is a typical working day like for you?

Completing bookkeeping, VAT Returns and dormant accounts, whilst assisting the wider team with tasks like Pandle Support and consultations. And everyone’s favourite: calling HMRC to listen to their wonderful hold music for 30-40 minutes.

What particular challenges do you regularly encounter?

Not being able to complete tasks due to missing records or information.

How are you able to use your skills to solve problems for clients?

I am able to use my ever-evolving skills to focus on presenting records in an accurate way, so that our clients can focus on running their business.

What is your favourite part of the job?

The working environment. Everyone at the office makes a working day enjoyable.

What do you like most about working for The Accountancy Partnership?

That I am able to feel like part of an interconnected team, all working towards providing the best experience for our clients.

What skills do you find most useful to do your job?

My inquisitiveness and being able to figure out something that is particularly tricky, and having that ‘eureka’ moment when it all clicks into place.

Where’s your favourite place to visit on days off?

If it is a weekend with F1 or MotoGP then that place is the living room. On weekends without those I am often found blasting through a Welsh road or valley as I explore the country on my bike (a Bandit 650 called Beatrix and nicknamed ‘Smokey’).

Tell us your proudest achievement

Honestly, it’s between getting my degree in Medieval and Early Modern History, and getting this job.

How would your colleagues describe you?

Well, I would hope that they would describe me as good at my job and hardworking. Failing that, somewhere in the ‘funny to weird and unique’ ballpark would be ok with me.

What are you reading/binge watching at the moment?

I am currently working my way through the ‘Halo’ novels, (yes very nerdy I know) and I enjoy re-watching Supernatural, Bones, and Doctor Who, and I am looking forward to season two of Reacher coming out soon.

Who do you admire, and why?

Valentino Rossi (aka ‘The Doctor’) came to my mind immediately. For context he is a 9 times MotoGP world champion, and one of the two reasons why I have such a passion for motorbikes.

What question would you really like to answer, and what’s the answer?!

If you could travel in time, would you go to the past or to the future?

The past, because the future is not written yet.
