This month we spoke to Shermaya Starkie, Payroll Clerk at The Accountancy Partnership!
Give an overview of the duties, functions and responsibilities of your job.
The role includes providing payroll to a client base, providing help and advice on procedure and legislation and running payrolls.
What is a typical working day like for you?
Typically, I will begin the day with replying to emails. I will then check what tasks are needed for the day such as set-ups. This will be followed by completing payroll submissions and corresponding pension submissions. Back to emails to end the day.
What particular challenges do you regularly encounter?
HMRC, they are always a challenge.
How are you able to use your skills to solve problems for them?
Understanding what obligations they have as an employer; it can be a lot to get your head around. Especially for new companies/directors.
What is your favourite part of the job?
It would have to be the constant learning and how each day is different.
What do you like most about working for The Accountancy Partnership?
The people and their humour. It’s a fun place to work.
What skills do you find the most useful to do your job?
The ability to retain information.
Where’s your favourite place to visit on days off?
The TUI website to look for holidays – I’m usually looking at Disney World.

Efficient, caring, able to find common ground with everyone, and the biggest wimp ever.

Currently binging a re-watch of Criminal Minds and usually reading a thriller.

People who are genuinely themselves, kind, caring and don’t give into peer pressure.
