Sophie Kearns

Staff Spotlight: Sophie Kearns, Accounts Semi-Senior

Give an overview of the duties, functions and responsibilities of your job.

My duties include the preparation of annual accounts for sole traders, producing Self Assessment tax returns, bookkeeping, and producing VAT returns. I am looking forward to starting training soon on limited company accounts. I also offer support for Pandle through the live chat, phone and consultations.

What is a typical working day like for you?

My day always starts with checking over any emails I have received overnight, responding to these and then working through any tasks that I have, prioritising urgent work.

What are some of the biggest challenges faced by your clients?

Quite a lot of our clients are new to being self-employed or are new businesses. It can be overwhelming for them to know what information we require to complete their accounts. I always do my best to re-assure them and provide clear directions. Clients are often surprised that it is actually not that complicated!

How are you able to use your skills to solve problems for them?

With being online accountants, communication is key when it comes to solving problems. Previously, I worked in customer service where I learnt great skills to communicate well with clients whether that be by email, phone or video call.

What is your favourite part of the job?

Everyday at TAP is different! We have a large client range with a variety of different businesses. It is really interesting to learn about the different types of businesses.

What do you like most about working for The Accountancy Partnership?

Everyone is friendly and always happy to help.

What skills do you find most useful to do your job?

Organisation, time-management and flexibility.

Where’s your favourite place to visit on days off?

A nice coffee shop. No weekend is complete without a long walk and a nice coffee (with a piece of cake).

Tell us about your proudest achievement.

Getting into the University of Liverpool to study Maths and Economics.

How would you colleagues describe you?

“Surprisingly clever”.

What are you reading/binge watching at the moment?

I have just finished watching Nobody Wants This and The Perfect Couple. I love an easy watch.

Who do you admire, and why?

My Grandad who is turning 100 next month! He is clever, funny, strong minded and fiercely independent.

What question would you really like to answer, and what’s the answer?

Do you want to book a holiday? YES
