Staff Spotlight: Tom Bilby, SEO Executive

We talk to Tom about his role as a SEO Executive here at The Accountancy Partnership.

Give an overview of the duties, functions, and responsibilities of your job.

My job covers a range of areas, from outreach that involves various blogs, magazines, news publications and universities, to assisting our SEO Manager, Karl, to optimize our website for search engines.

What is a typical working day like for you?

Most of my days are spent monitoring our search rankings and website traffic, competitor performance in search, and to identify prospects for possible outreach opportunities.

I also periodically monitor our brand mentions and our online review platforms as well.

What particular challenges do you regularly encounter?

During our outreach efforts there can be a lot of back and forth and quite a bit of chasing up involved! However, once our content is live on the various websites I reach out to, it makes it worth it in the end.

What is your favourite part of the job?

My favourite part of my job is seeing the tangible gains that are made from our SEO efforts in improvements in search rankings and website traffic, it’s very rewarding!

What do you like most about working for The Accountancy Partnership?

I would have to say that it’s a combination of working with a great group of people on the Marketing team and the overall atmosphere in the office.

TAP have put a lot of effort into making this an enjoyable place to work and are very supportive of their employees.

What skills do you find most useful to do your job?

My job requires use of analytical skills as there is a lot of data involved with the SEO side of things on our website. I’m often organising our collaboration with people outside the business as well, which requires good use of negotiation and communication skills.

Where’s your favourite place to visit on days off?

I’m an avid gamer so my days off are usually spent playing video games rather than going outside. However, if I do go out my favourite place is anywhere near the sea, we are very lucky in our area to have easy access to long coastal walks!

Tell us about your proudest achievement.

I just recently moved into my first place on my own. It was quite a surreal feeling but I’m really proud of myself.

How would your colleagues describe you?

My wonderful team have described me as the following: Super reliable gem, softly spoken, secret ninja, bloody hilarious, silent genius, meal deal fanatic, and a world of wisdom!

What are you reading/binge watching at the moment?

I most recently watched the film ‘Don’t Look Up’ with Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, which was great. I also just started the series ‘The Sinner’ on Netflix which, so far, is really interesting!

Who do you admire, and why?

That would have to be my parents. They are both extremely hard-working and kind people, and it often feels like they never stop. That’s probably because they don’t!
